Flying Ants vs. Termite Swarmers

Know the Difference

Flying ants and termites are often mistaken for each other. While similar in size, they have several notable differences:

Flying Ant

  • Pinched waist
  • Long legs
  • Elbowed antennae
  • Two pairs of wings, rear wings smaller than front
  • Wings have few well-defined veins

Swarming Termite

  • Broad waist
  • Short legs
  • Straight antennae
  • Two pairs of wings the same size and shape
  • More and finer veins in wings create a lace-like appearance
